Fields of “Greenery”

Nikki Sedacca Gallery at Nevin Square Exhibition Opening: Fields of “Greenery”

Opening Reception and Jewelry Trunk Show with Elizabeth: Saturday, July 22, 2017 from 4pm to 8pm

Each new season on Martha’s Vineyard brings about new work, new artists, and new ideas. This show, Fields of “Greenery,” is inspired by Pantone’s color of the year: Greenery. The Nikki Sedacca Galllery sees its artists not only using this “fresh, zesty yellow-green,” but also drawing inspiration from the endless hues of green throughout nature– in its foliage, fields and flowing water. In this group show, Nikki Sedacca Gallery features Randy Colbath, Bettina Sego, Teresa McCue, Arleen Joseph, Linda Richichi, Maria Burtis, Andrea Dasha Reich, and local artist Anne-Marie Eddy. The opening reception will be Saturday, July 22nd from 4pm to 8pm. Nikki Sedacca Gallery will also host a Trunk Show and meet the designer weekend event featuring the fine jewelry designs of Elizabeth Buenaventura, whose collection highlights a travelers spirit in 14kt gold with precious stones.

In the words of Leatrice Eiseman, who is the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institue, “Greenery bursts fourth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolized the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”

Channeling the feel behind “greenery” is artist Randy Colbath. Being a marine-engineer for 30 years, Randy enjoys exploring the boat motif in his abstract boat sculptures. In his new piece, Salvage, the boat is succumb to nature’s will. Randy juxtaposes a sleek finish on the top of the piece to the woods natural texture underneath the boat. The two boats in this show are examples of Colbath’s ability to transform a salvaged piece of wood, into a stunning sculpture that each hold a certain mysterious story.

Arleen Joseph’s abstract landscapes are a highlight of the show with her unique color combinations, textures and lively brushstrokes. Lost World connects to a space unvisited—a Technicolor space for which people are searching. Joseph’s piece “Sunlight Warming” is a visual exploration of territory and color, like a map, where the eye travels from detail to detail and is drawn into the textures of her bold brush strokes.

Higher Perspective I & II is a visual representation of Linda Richichi’s ability to rise above her fears, notwithstanding the political climate. Higher Perspective I & II shows a rejuvenated day full of hope and sunlight. In her new piece, Sunlight Over the Vineyard, Richichi highlights the complex colors of the foliage amidst a perfect sunset. In Bettina Sego’s work, we see the multitude of greens and blues found in water. Currents is one of Sego’s newest pieces from this water series. Using a variety of mixed media and a matte resin, the pieces focuses on movement and motion of colors.

With the pieces mentioned and other exciting works, join Nikki Sedacca Gallery located at 17 Winter St in Edgartown, MA for a trunk show & exhibition-opening extravaganza Saturday, July 22st from 4pm to 8pm.
